If your windscreen mists up on the inside, the glass is rarely the problem. The air inside the car usually is.

Why it happens

Breath, wet coats and damp floor mats put moisture into the air. When that air meets cold glass, the moisture turns into mist.

How to clear it fast

  • Turn on the air conditioning and point the airflow at the windscreen.
  • Turn off air recirculation, so drier air from outside comes in.
  • Open a window slightly for a moment to let damp air out.

How to stop it coming back

  • Clean the inside of the glass. Dirt and film give moisture something to cling to.
  • Take wet items out of the car, and dry the floor mats.
  • Check the door seals and the boot for leaks.

When it is the glass

If you see moisture between the layers of the windscreen, or water coming in around the edge of the glass, it needs looking at. Send us a photo and your registration, and we will tell you what we see.
